This role

As a Senior Data Engineer you will work closely with ReMark’s Data Community to contribute to a global Databricks implementation. This role will involve architecting, developing and optimising data pipelines as well as integrating with reporting tools like Power BI to support needs across the organisation.

Roles & Responsabilities

  • Lead the design, development and deployment of scalable and efficient data pipelines on Databricks to support our global data initiatives
  • Architect and manage Databricks clusters, jobs and workflows for optimal performance and scalability
  • Collaborate with other data professionals in the business to ensure seamless data flow and accessibility for advanced analytics
  • Implement best practices for data governance, security and data quality in Databricks environments
  • Continually optimize existing Databricks implementation for cost efficiency, performance and reliability
  • Data Engineering and pipeline management: ETL, scalability, monitoring of pipelines, performance tuning and optimization

Core Competencies

The candidate for this job will be enthusiastic about the responsibilities above, and will have a skillset which complements the job well, including:

  • Significant experience in data engineering with a strong focus on cloud-based data platforms
  • Proven experience in building and managing complex ETL/ELT pipelines
  • Proficient in SQL and one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, Scala)
  • Experience with version control systems and CI/CD pipelines for data workflows
  • Familiarity with data platforms, analytics and data visualization (e.g., Databricks, Power BI, Palantir Foundry) and version control tools (e.g., GitHub, BitBucket etc.)
  • Strong understanding of data modelling, database design and data warehousing concepts
  • Knowledge of compliant and secure handling of PHI/PII data, ensuring data privacy and security
  • Familiarity with data governance, data security and compliance frameworks in cloud environments
  • Strong communication skills and ability to translate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Eligibility to work in UK / European Union

Preferred supplementary skills:

  • Enthusiastic
  • Interest in working close to data scientists and domain experts
  • A healthy knowledge and interest of news & current affairs especially in the topic of technology, data governance, AI, health & wellness, financial sector, insurance, and consumer behavior

Required Skills & Experience

  • Master’s degree or its equivalent in Computer Science, Data Science, STEM, or a related field
  • +2 years of work experience data engineering, preferably within the (re)insurance sector, as part of a financial services company or similar organization
